Rudy en 23 tounes (transl. Rudy in 23 tunes) is the third book published by French Canadian author Edith Bernier.
After two books on Fatphobia (see Gros·se et puis? and Grandir sans grossophobie), she decided to step out of her comfort zone and write a biography.
The subject of this untraditional bio, Rudy Caya, is a Quebecois singer-songwriter who rose to fame all accross Canada in the 1990s, as singer of the band Vilain Pingouin and author of hit songs like Salut Salaud, Le train and Délinquance.
Working with Edith was really great, but we didn’t really work, actually. It was like talking to a friend who wanted to translate my thoughts, my intentions and emotions, and more than just my words. Our literary adventure is ending, but not our friendship.
-Rudy Caya
Summary
Leader of the rock band Vilain Pingouin, Rudy Caya has been a staple of the Quebec music scene since 1990. A man with eclectic influences and surprising facets, an uncompromising musician, Rudy is first and foremost a family man, a caring father. With him, there are never any compromises. Neither on his values nor on his convictions.
Written in collaboration with the artist, this unique biography tells the story of the bandana-wearing singer through the songs that have thrilled his fans. Along the way, nods to the social and cultural context, from apartheid to the Empire des futures stars and from Salut salaud to Fais d’ton mieux, without forgetting the technological advances that have changed the world… and music.
Authentic, wholehearted, and inspiring, Rudy Caya is an exceptional Quebec artist who is definitely worth getting to know!
